Obituary for Elizabeth M. Jones

Elizabeth M. Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on January 18, 2018, in Crownsville, MD. She spent her final days in the company of her loving family. She was born September 22, 1922, in Greenville, North Carolina, the only daughter of four children to Carroll and Katherine Manning. She is predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and her beloved husband, Dennis S. Jones Sr.

She is survived by her three children, Denise Werner-Hansen, Dennis S. Jones Jr., and John Jones. A proud and devoted mother and grandmother, she is known as “Meemaw” to her large family, which includes seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She wed her teenage sweetheart, Dennis, on September 28, 1939, in Portsmouth, VA. They were happily married for 60 years, until his passing on July 9, 2000. She enjoyed an accomplished career in the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. Her family fondly remembers her stunning rose and azalea gardens at her home in Gambrills, MD. A skilled seamstress, she was frequently found creating dresses and clothing at her treasured sewing machine. Loved ones cherish her beautiful needlepoint art.

Above all else, she will be remembered for her steadfast efforts to help and support those in her life, and those in need. Generous with time and energy, she lived her life in accordance with her deeply held Christian values of loyalty, charity, and service. She faced life’s challenges with seemingly infinite strength and resourcefulness. Fiercely independent and determined, she remained active and sharp of mind and memory into her final days, where she lived at Brightview Senior Living in Edgewater, MD. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 21 from 2 to 4 PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 22, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
